HBO’s Chernobyl

This past weekend my husband and I finished watching HBO’s mini series Chernobyl. Oh my goodness, I loved this series!

The mini series is based off the events of the Chernobyl nuclear disaster in 1986. There are some characters that are constants throughout all five episodes, but some only pop up for an episode or two.

The writers really got you wrapped into the panic of not knowing how to handle the catastrophe. Plus, how could the politicians put the lives of their people at risk simply to not look bad to the rest of the world?

From talking to friends that have studied Chernobyl in their schooling, it sounds like the series was mostly realistic. From what they were saying though, it sounds like a final cause for the explosion was never really settled. Too many of the integral folks passed away before they could be interviewed.

Rating: 8.5 / 10.0

I saw on the Today show Friday that tourism to this part of Russia has increased since the release of the mini series. You can walk throw some of the safe towns and see where items were abandoned as the locals evacuated. That sounds like an interesting trip to make.

Also, I believe National Geographic had a special that studied the animals that survived or still lived in the area with all the radiation. That was also an interesting show to see how the radiation impacted the evolution of some creatures.
